Cub Scout Pack Meeting

We love cub scouts!!  Tonight we enjoyed a Magic themed Cub Scout Pack meeting.

Jared:  I understand you like to do magic tricks. What's your favorite?
Brock:  Sawing people in half.
Jared:  Interesting, and are there any other people in your family?
Brock:  Yes, I have two half brothers and two half sisters.

10th Anniversary of September 11, 2001

This afternoon we had an opportunity to thank our local first responders.  It was a great community event.  I'm grateful our family could attend and participate in the ceremony.

A day to never forget ☼

When Family Comes to Visit - Day 1

When family comes to town, we really know how to show them a good time!!  What do we do?  We take them to a boy scout troop BBQ?!  Seriously, this food was absolutely fantastic!!!  The dutch oven cobblers were made by Cookie Winfield himself.  YUMMY!!  The meat was slow cooked in a pit for days.  The boy scouts were our waiters and they were great.  It was a wonderful evening of fun, hayrides, 'ranch exploring', good food, lovely entertainment and great company.

We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE when family comes to town!!!

Seriously, I should never be put in charge of picture taking.  Bryan is a much better "memory capture-er"  Oh well, at least we have wonderful memories in our mind's eye.

FYI: the boy scout troop was doing the fundraiser for the upcoming trip to Philmont.  How cool is that!

Cub Scout Blue & Gold Banquet

Daniel made a F A N T A S T I C cake
for the cub scout blue and gold banquet.
Not only did it look great but it tasted good too!!

End of Day 2

The whole process took him 2 long afternoons of work. The cake is modeled after a Pokémon ball (ball used by the Pokémon character Ash Ketchum).

Great Job Daniel!!!

Pinewood Derby

The church building may have had no water or heat but the
Pinewood Derby was a hit!!

In fact, most of the families in our area didn't have heat and few didn't have water.  Don't you just love it when a huge freeze hits a desert town?   Talk about a great opportunity to test our emergency reserves.

Blue & Gold Banquet

Each boy had to make and decorate a cake for this year's blue & gold banquet. Daniel is quite handy in the kitchen so he had no problems with the assignment. After doing some research on the family fun website he went to work with minimal help from mom. It was a real blessing that we had gingerbread cookies in the freezer to serve as part of his design.

Chess

Daniel really enjoys playing chess. So to fulfill one of his bear requirements he and his buddy taught the rest of the cub scout pack how to play chess. Daniel and Daniel F. were both part of the chess team at school so they know the game well. They got together a couple of times to plan the activity. On the big day, they hauled all their chess boards over to the church. They had10 between the two of them! When their fellow scouts arrived, they divided them into two groups with each Daniel teaching a group. I was so impressed with they way they followed their outline and the patience they demonstrated in teaching. They did a fantastic job and every boy there earned their chess belt loop!! Way to go!!

As always the cub scout leaders did an amazing job with the event. It was a fantastic set-up, from the emergency car medic room to the weigh in station to the race track decorations, simply very cool! It was a great experience for our little Daniel!! Thank you leaders for all your hard work!!

Cub Scout Blue & Gold Banquet

We had a great time at this year's
Cub Scout Blue & Gold Banquet.

Daniel earned another bead towards his rank of wolf.

The scouts singing a fun rendition of "Do your ears hang low?"

Daniel chose to display his quarter collection and marble collection.

Daniel made a batman out of black beans and lentils.

Part way through dinner, Sara decided to "adopt" herself into another family. She picked up her plate and relocated into Carrie's lap. Sara simply adores Carrie and Tarin.

The leaders did an amazing job with the decorations. Wow!! It really felt like we were transported back in time and stepped into an old fashion fair. If you have a minute stop by Camille's blog for better pictures of the decorations. They really were amazing!
